The joint 2019 IECA – Australasia and Stormwater Queensland Conference was held in Cairns last week. We partnered with Vital Environment and Vital Chemical as the sponsors of the Awards Dinner. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners. It’s great to see IECA and Stormwater Queensland putting a focus on the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) and the issues faced by this unique and precious ecosystem from agricultural runoff and climate change with this conference.
Dr J.E.N “Charlie” Veron’s keynote presentation around the capacity of reefs to recover from major disturbances and how water quality degradation reduces the resilience of reefs to bleaching events was of particular interest to the team at Turbid. Scary to think about how the GBR reefs might be impacted in the future, particularly from the effects of ocean acidification and other climate change effects now in progress.
